 Cuillin View (Chalet 1)

Self Catering Holiday House, 3 bedrooms sleeps 6

Ord, Sleat Peninsular, South Skye

The hamlet of Ord is breathtakingly beautiful and secluded: a few houses, four miles from a two way road and seven from the nearest pub and shop. Just a beautiful safe beach and shore with abundant wildlife and one of the best views in the UK. From our holiday house you can see over Loch Eishort to both the Cuillin of Skye and the Cuillin of Rum, Scotland's most famous and rugged mountains- a truly wonderful view, both summer and winter.

Ord is on the Sleat peninsular in the south west of the Isle of Skye, which is know as the garden of Skye. The Isle of Skye is part of the Inner Hebrides and is arguably Scotland's most beautiful and varied Island, however it is impossible to make such a simple choice as all of the islands have a distinct and different beauty. Skye is on the north west coast of Scotland, part of the group of islands called the "Inner Hebrides". The other Hebrides include Rum, Barra, North & South Uist, Harris & Lewis and many others all well worth a visit but in summer but book your Caledonian MacBrayne ferries early.

Skye is famous for its variety of beautiful scenery both mountain and coastal. It has fabulous walking, climbing and kayaking.  Skye is steeped in Scottish history with many castles including Dunvegan Castle, the Clan Donald Centre and the grave of Flora MacDonald who rowed the defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie "over the sea to Skye". It also has great food and drink; famous restaurants such as the Three Chimneys and the Kinloch Lodge, home to the classic malt whiskies Torabhaig and Talisker and to the Skye Brewery.

Ord is near Armadale (which has a CalMac ferry link to Mallaig, from where ferries travel to other islands). This area also houses, Torabhaig Distillery and  Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college, internationally recognised as a National Centre for Gaelic language and culture. Ord is about 15 miles from Broadford and 42 miles from Portree.

We have owned the house for almost 30 years. The interior has a large open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area.  This room runs along the whole length of the house, there is a very large external deck with views of the Cuillin Ridge and the Islands of Rum and Canna. There are three bedrooms, a double (with king size bed) a twin and a small twin.  There is a mezzanine sitting/ and children play area, a utility room with automatic washing machine and tumble dryer, a front entry porch with a snug sitting area. There is one large bathroom with a bath shower. The house is well insulated and has double glazing. We have a log burning stove (wood is supplied free of charge) backed up by electric storage heating. The house has a landline payphone, which allows guests to recieve calls free and has free WiFi broadband now 10mb which is sufficient to stream video. The moment the house Ord get a mobile phone signal on the EE network.

There is a large TV in the open plan sitting area and a small TV in the "snug" sitting area in the front porch. Both TV have access to "On Demand" internet apps based television (iPlayer, Freeview, ITV player etc).

The house has a very large beautiful garden with seating.

We normally allow one dog, sometimes two, but prefer to discuss specifics of pets with our guests individually.
